Home in Hertfordshire

HOME IN HERTFORDSHIRE

This project involved the comprehensive renovation and extension of a detached home in Hertfordshire, located within a Conservation Area. Our Client sought to modernize and enhance the property while maintaining its character and blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The design focused on creating a calm, refined atmosphere, with careful consideration of the finishes and materials to evoke a sense of tranquillity and understated elegance.

The existing conservatory, which was in poor condition and no longer suited the client’s needs, was removed to make way for a full-width extension. This new addition provides a generous living, kitchen and dining space. Designed with a pitched roof and strategically placed rooflights, the extension floods the space with natural light, enhancing its sense of volume and openness while integrating the indoors with the outdoors.

Above the new kitchen, a second-storey addition was built to create a spacious main bedroom suite. This addition is thoughtfully designed to provide privacy while maximizing natural light and views of the surrounding area. The clean lines and refined finishes within the bedroom suite contribute to the overall calm atmosphere of the home, offering a peaceful retreat.

The garage was also reconfigured to provide better-suited storage, maximizing the available space without sacrificing functionality. In addition, the entrance hall was completely reorganized to create a striking double-height space. This transformation brings in abundant natural daylight, enhancing the entry experience and making a much stronger first impression upon entering the home. A feature staircase draws the eye upwards, creating a sense of drama and space that was previously lacking.

Externally, the garden and landscaping were carefully reworked to accommodate the new additions and address changes in the property’s levels. The redesigned outdoor space enhances the overall flow between the home’s interior and exterior, creating a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment.

Throughout the project, careful attention was given to the choice of materials and finishes. The client’s selection of soft, neutral tones and natural textures creates a cohesive and calming atmosphere. The home’s heating system was also upgraded, alongside comprehensive rewiring, ensuring the property is not only aesthetically pleasing but also energy-efficient and future-proof.

This renovation and extension successfully blends contemporary design with the historic context of the Conservation Area. By combining modern functionality with thoughtful design choices, the project has transformed the home into a serene, harmonious space, perfectly suited to the client’s lifestyle and the property’s surroundings.
