DUXHURST FARM BARNS
This project involved the conversion of two disused barns into three residential homes—two four-bedroom houses and one two-bedroom house—designed for resale. Located near the picturesque Surrey Hills, the barns were transformed into light-filled, functional homes that blend contemporary living with the character of the original structures.
The two larger barns feature expansive apex rooflights, which flood the interiors with natural light, creating bright, airy living spaces. The layouts were carefully considered to meet the needs of modern family life, incorporating open-plan living areas, ample storage, and practical utility spaces. Each home was designed to offer flexible and comfortable living, with an emphasis on seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
The division of the barns into three individual properties, along with the landscaping and access arrangements, were thoughtfully planned to ensure privacy for each home while fostering a sense of community. Generous outdoor living spaces were created, enhancing the connection to the surrounding landscape and providing an ideal setting for family life.
The original barn structures were carefully preserved and integrated into the design, with their exposed features adding unique character and charm to the homes. Contemporary finishes and detailed craftsmanship were used throughout, resulting in three beautifully finished homes that respect the history of the barns while providing a modern, high-quality living environment that will stand the test of time.
